USAToday: Megaships may replace boats on Lake Nicaragua

November 28th, 2006, 2 Comments

I just ran into this article from USA Today describing Nicaragua’s proposal to create a canal that would be deeper than Panama canal, transforming Lake Nicaragua and the island of Ometepe in the process. Vineyard Nicaragua blog; feeding the poor

April 21st, 2005, No Comments

The Vineyard Nicaragua blog has been up for a while. They just posted an interview with Ana Patricia, who leads a ministry which is feeding and serving the poorest of the families and children in the neighborhood of Managua that the church office is in. They’re doing a fantastic job of serving the poor. I [...]

Home, and yet not

February 25th, 2005, No Comments

I’m home after a good flight and good time with Roy and Gail. But of cousre when I came home, Shannon and Kaileigh are gone, now in Billings with family. I will leave Sunday after our church gathering to join them, but it sure seems empty here. I’ll blog more about Nica wrapup stuff later.

Gail taught a women´s group at lunch about something we weren´t allowed to hear (:-)) while the guys had lunch at a fast food chicken joint with a very strangely dressed clown character who reminded me [...]

Day 1 in Nicaragua

February 19th, 2005, No Comments

Our team of 3 arrived in Managua safely last night. Uneventful flight down, except for my sitting next to a french Canadian on the leg from Houston to Managua who told me all about his wife who had left him for another man, his preference for deferential women who want a ´real man´, not like [...]

Ometepe Island

October 6th, 2004, No Comments

When I made my first visit to Nicaragua this spring, our group went to Ometepe Island for a few days. A small rural island in Lake Nicaragua, Ometepe is stunningly beautiful. Geologically it is essentially two volcanoes on two ends on the island (one living, one dormant) and a small patch of land in between. [...]

Nice to be back home again

May 2nd, 2004, No Comments

It’s great to be home from Nicaragua again. I’m working on publlishing the photos we took (or many of them anyway) and also on a fuller trip report. But for now here are a few memories dancing in my head: 1. Seeing a young waitress come to Christ as she heard the La Vina Managua [...]
