USAToday: Megaships may replace boats on Lake Nicaragua

I just ran into this article from USA Today describing Nicaragua’s proposal to create a canal that would be deeper than Panama canal, transforming Lake Nicaragua and the island of Ometepe in the process.

    A good way to get unemployment down in Nicaragua and a great boost
    to the economy. Both the USA and Japan should be eager to fund such a
    Project.

    I find the discussion about this interesting. It would certainly fuel the economy. It would also certainly industrialize a quiet, retreat-like environment. I wonder how Ometepe's culture will adapt.
