GO: Brian McLaren, “A Generous Heart Toward the Powerless”

When orthodoxy combines itself with the power of violence, something happens. And we have to consider whether it is still orthodoxy.

There are deep theological roots that associate God with redemptive violence, the belief that God cleans up the world by killing people.

I believe that at the center of Jesus’ message is a destructin of this concept.

Matt 5:38. Two options: fight or flight. But turning the other cheek means, “I’m not afraid of you, and I’m going to show you how I have a greater power than you do.”
- Sue and take tunic:
- Forced to take a Roman pack

all about power overwhelmed by greater Kingdom power

Colossians 1:15 : the cross tells us NOT that God is violently angry but that God repudiates violence.

    Pat,
I am sorry that I didn't get to meet you at the conference. I enjoyed reading your notes, however.
    Blessings…
