★ Final problem statement

2008 September 21

I’ve gotten approval for this final version of my problem statement (I earlier posted works in progress):

I am studying Celtic, Benedictine and Orthodox monasticism because I want to discover what frameworks these spiritualities provide so that my reader may understand how spiritual formation serves God’s mission.

Very interesting topic, I wish you much success.

As a cradle atheist until I was 37 years old and former evangelical Protestant in the Reformed tradition until I was 57 years old, I found the Catholic church to be a source of deep and ancient spirituality — much different than the common non-Catholic impressions.

I am now a Benedictine oblate at a Catholic monastery in Florida.

I grew up in the Catholic church, and was relatively Catholic (:-)) until I was out of college. It's just now that I'm discovering the depth of spirituality there. I'm looking forward to the next season of life!

Blessings on you, John. I'll stop by your blog.
