Radical Congruency’s notes on this session

Mine:

We are as polarized between left and right in religion as much as we are in politics. Two extremes only. It’s hard to find a mix between generosity and orthodoxy.

The right has this idea that orthodoxy is not personal. It’s objective and abstract. You shouldn’t say “I”; it’s abstract truth. (That only exists in the mind of God).

A GO is a title stolen from Stan Grenz’s “Reclaiming the Center”. Grenz was updating the ideas of Hans Frye from Yale.

John Franke quotes Hans Frey as saying, “generosity without org as worthless; but orthodoxy without generosity is worse.” Think about that a minute.

Think about “love the sinner but hate the sin”. The problem is that the ‘but’ is a very big ‘but’.
Perhaps we should aim at “Love(period) and Truth(period)”.

We need to understand what the left fears, and what the right fears. We can’t get to a GO without casting out frear.

WHAT IS LOVE AND TRUTH AREN’T IN OPPOSITION AT ALL? But what if certain undestandings

Try reading 1 John and see how love and truth fit together. What does it mean to DO the truth and WALK in it, not jsut know the truth.

What is the truth is that we’re all messed up, and we’re all loved?

One of the most quoted verses when orthodoxy comes up is John 14:6. In context!

“People forget that Paul wrote 1 Cor 13. He didn’t steal it from a wedding service.”

Eph “Speaking the truth in love…”
Gal: “The only thing that matters is faith expressing itself in love.”
